France adopts the Nordic Model
After two years of debate in the French Parliament, law has finally been passed that will charge offenders who pay for sexual services. In other words, the Nordic Model has been introduced in France!
One of the main backers of the legislation, MP Maud Oliver, told the press, “we know that 85% of the prostitutes in France are victims of trafficking”. For this reason, they also introduced temporary residence permit to help victims find jobs outside of prostitution.
Importantly, allowing victims to find employment within France will also help prosecutors launch successful cases against traffickers with the help of trafficked persons.
Overall, Abrahams Foundation is very pleased with this result. Not only is it fantastic to see more nations adopt the Nordic Model, its also a step in the right direction towards gender equality.
